The role of Professional engineering bodies in assisting the U.N. system was discussed in a co-ordination meeting of non-government organization engaged in engineering education and training, in April, 1978. This meeting sponsored by UNESCO and held at Paris provided an opportunity for the non-government organizations engaged in education and training to discuss the issues of improving professional collaboration to provide an effective working mechanism to the UNESCO for implementation of the project. The meeting further indicated the need for UNESCO initiatives in forming regional federations. As a result of the Paris meeting formation of Federation in the UNESCO region of South and Central Asia was considered and the first meeting of the president and Secretaries of the engineering institutions of south and Central Asia (FEISCA) was formally taken. It was also decided in the Delhi Preparatory Meeting that the First General Assembly of the Federation was auspices of The Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh. Infect the Federation took shape at Dhaka with the holding of its 1st General Assembly in 1981. The First General Assembly elected an Executive Committee with DR. Engr. Amitabh Bhattacharyya (India) and Engr. Serajul Majid Mamoon (Bangladesh) as President Secretary General of the Federation respectively. |
